What Do You Suppose...?

This is a nice idea. I really like the thought of translating this scene to black and white. It gives it a special kind of life to the piece. I think you can expand on this even further too. You got the water down nicely, but the amount of scratches start to get in the way of the areas that are meant to be dark. The rock doesn't mesh too well with the water because of those scratches, maybe you could have differentiated the style of lines to better define it. Your Ariel model is simplistic, but that works to add in a sense of mystery and wonder to the piece. You can do a little more work with her friends, but you realize this very well.

Your night sky is perfect. Those clouds look excellent, and the scratches you used for them just makes them seem more like good stylized clouds. The fireworks are a bit messy, but that's not that big of a deal really. They don't jar with the sky too much. Actually, let me change that, the one on the left is excessive but the ones by the ship work perfectly for the festivities you wanted to capture. Brilliant I say.

Your design of the ship works very well. There's nothing I can really say other than it works well. It looks like a ship, and it looks like there's a party on board.

Overall, this is a great piece that really captures the mystical nature of this scene as Ariel catches her first glimpse of the surface world. Aside from the stuff I listed (which doesn't really harm the piece), this is just perfect.
